The Sakura Cherry tree project is an initiative of the Japan-British Society whereby, as a gesture of friendship between the two countries, Japanese business will donate over 1000 trees to selected sites across the UK over the course of 2020 and 2021.You may already have seen announcements in the national press concerning those stands which have so far been established in our Royal Parks.
I am delighted to announce that the Parish Meeting of Priest Hutton gave its unanimous approval to our application to participate in the scheme at their meeting on the 21st January and that we have been granted provisional approval from the project managers, to establish a stand of trees on our Parish lands adjacent to Whitebeck Lane.
We will prepare a survey and planting plan for the site in the coming weeks and await delivery of our trees over winter 2020/2021.
The saplings, stakes and fertilizer will be provided by the Sakura team. We will need to take care of the planting and their maintenance until they are established.
I will give an update on our progress via the Village Newsletter and in this section of the website.
